MyMichigan Health Completes Acquisition of Ascension Michigan’s Northern Region

MyMichigan Health announced today that it has successfully completed the purchase of Ascension Michigan’s locations in Saginaw, Tawas and Standish. The acquisition includes Ascension St. Mary’s of Saginaw, Ascension St. Mary’s Towne Center, Ascension St. Joseph in Tawas, Ascension St. Mary’s of Standish, and all related sites of care and related physician practices of Ascension Medical Group.

“We’re honored to be caring for the communities that Ascension Michigan’s Northern Region has so passionately served for many, many years,” said Lydia Watson, M.D., president and CEO, MyMichigan Health. “Their employees, providers and volunteers are compassionate, skilled and respected. We are truly overjoyed to work with such exceptional teams that are already in place and have them part of the MyMichigan Health family.”

As part of MyMichigan Health, Ascension St. Mary’s of Saginaw, a 268-bed acute care inpatient facility, has been renamed MyMichigan Medical Center Saginaw; Ascension St. Mary’s Towne Center, an ambulatory surgery center, wound care center, emergency department and short stay unit facility, is now MyMichigan Medical Center Towne Centre; Ascension St. Joseph in Tawas, a 47-bed acute inpatient facility, has been renamed MyMichigan Medical Center Tawas, and Ascension St. Mary’s of Standish, a 25-bed critical access hospital and 29-bed skilled nursing facility, is now MyMichigan Medical Center Standish.

“This is not just about getting bigger, it’s about getting better,” said Dr. Watson. “Through the addition of these locations, we are building on the legacy Ascension has already established and our focus is to strengthen access to care and services for these communities.”

Dr. Watson continued, “You may know of our Purpose in ‘Creating Healthy Communities – Together.’ These aren’t just words on paper, it is an action that we reinforce across our health system every day. We’re delighted that our Purpose, part of the fabric and culture of who we are, will now be shared with these communities, its residents, families, our new neighbors. This truly is an exciting time for all."

Mike Erickson, who was named president of MyMichigan’s newest member hospitals in Saginaw, Standish, Tawas and Towne Centre in April, begins his new leadership role effective today.

“I can’t begin to tell you what an honor it is to work alongside our employees in Saginaw, Tawas and Standish to serve our communities,” said Erickson. “Building strong relationships with our teams, getting to know our patients and visitors, and being involved in the community are my top priorities. By understanding the needs and challenges of each area, we will help to leverage our strengths and address areas of growth. I am very optimistic for what our future holds.”

Erickson began his career with MyMichigan Health in 2008 serving as the system vice president support services. He then transitioned in 2021 to system vice president professional services where he was accountable for oversight, vision and leading the strategic direction for professional services across the health system. He most recently served as president of MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena.
