Biography

Kevin Berlin, D.O., is a cardiologist with MyMichigan Health and is a member of the comprehensive heart and vascular team. This team includes cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, vascular and cardiothoracic surgeons, as well as cardiovascular trained nurses.

As a cardiologist, Dr. Berlin works with patients who have a variety of cardiac-related conditions such as coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis, peripheral vascular disease, valvular and structural heart disease, congenital heart defects and other complex cardiac conditions.

Dr. Berlin particularly enjoys practicing in the specialty of cardiology because of the balance of clinical time he has with patients, not only diagnosing and treating their conditions, but also having the hands-on diagnostic opportunities in reading and interpreting testing and performing certain tests. “I now limit my practice to non-invasive cardiology to allow me to spend more time with my patients,” he added.

Philosophy of Care

“I believe that a well-informed patient is a patient who will more actively engage in their own care,” said Dr. Berlin. “I firmly believe in a collaborative care model with the patient at the center, but also the primary care physician and the patients’ other specialists, therapists and care providers. The most important piece is the patient. I believe the care centers around them and the better informed and the better they understand their disease and their management plan the easier it is to get them to engage with their management team.”

Dr. Berlin enjoys creating a comfortable, informal atmosphere, in which patients feel at ease to ask questions regarding there diagnosis and their management plan. “I like to get to know my patients and their families, their likes and dislikes,” he added. “I feel the better I know them and the more comfortable they are with me, the better care I and their health care team can deliver. Each patient is a different individual and sometimes different approaches are necessary to make the patient comfortable. By getting to know the patient, I can hopefully find out what their individual priorities are so I, along with their health care team can provide them with their own unique care plan.”

Special Interests and Procedures

Dr. Berlin’s holds interest in heart failure, hypertension, atrial fibrillation, coronary disease and prevention. Procedurally, he is very interested in echocardiography, including transesophageal echocardiography, and nuclear cardiology as well as other non-invasive testing such as stress testing.

When not practicing medicine, Dr. Berlin enjoys reading, walking, hiking, listening to music and spending time with his adult children.
