Community Benefits at MyMichigan Health
MyMichigan Health’s commitment to providing Community Benefits is entrenched in our mission, vision, and values. We strive to improve the quality of life for people within our communities through investments in Community Benefit initiatives that seek to build and sustain a culture of health.
Our Financial Contribution to Health
As a non-profit health-system, MyMichigan Health invests back into the community by providing community benefits, which are programs and services designed to improve the community’s health and increase access to care. Our Community Benefit initiatives are based on the health priorities identified in the Community Health Needs Assessments conducted, every three years, for each of our communities. During fiscal year (FY) 2023, MyMichigan Health contributed $128 million towards Community Benefit initiatives across our 25-county region. MyMichigan Health’s financial contribution in FY 2023 funded a broad spectrum of Community Benefits including:
- charity care for uninsured and financially needy
- unreimbursed cost for providing care for those insured through Medicare, Medicaid, and other government sponsored health insurance plans
- medical research
- educational opportunities for health professionals
- community health education programs and support groups
- financial donations to support the health promotion efforts of non-profit organizations
- community building activities that promote health and well-being for the community
Improving the health in our communities is a responsibility we embrace, for without our communities MyMichigan Health would not exist. Community health improvement is a daunting challenge too large to belong to any single organization or group. Through our Community Benefit initiatives, we are partnering and collaborating with other community organizations to build healthy communities.
