Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
MyMichigan Health is committed to creating awareness, delivering education and providing a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment for our patients, employees, providers and volunteers. We appreciate, respect and value the unique attributes, characteristics and perspectives that make each person who they are, and consider diversity, equity and inclusion a driver of system excellence.
Our purpose is Creating Healthy Communities – Together. To do that, we focus on providing a supportive, inclusive environment for our employees and providers to work in each day, and work to ensure our patients are receiving excellent care in a setting that meets all of their needs.
Employees and providers at MyMichigan Health undergo diversity training, and are also offered courses on topics such as understanding implicit bias, gender identity, LBGTQIA+ inclusion in health care, microaggressions, inequities in health care and transgender care, among others. Clinical staff in certain areas are also trained in de-escalation techniques, so that behavioral health care for patients experiencing a behavioral health crisis can begin as soon as they walk through the doors.
In addition, our employees are encouraged to volunteer their time at local non-profit organizations that they are supportive of or passionate about as part of the health system’s Community Service Time Policy, which allows employees paid time off each year to volunteer.
MyMichigan Health also has a system-wide Health Equity Council, a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee and three sub committees that meet regularly to identify opportunities and discuss ongoing initiatives across the health system.
