More than 100 leaders, employees and health care providers gathered in the Sault to celebrate the integration of War Memorial Hospital, now MyMichigan Medical Center Sault, with the Midland-based health system, MyMichigan Health. The “Yooper” themed occasion recognized the hard work and dedication of the integration teams and celebrated accomplishments made since partnering in Oct. 2021.

“Our Medical Center has deep roots in the Sault, serving our patients for 100 years,” said Kevin Kalchik, M.H.A., C.P.A., president of MyMichigan Medical Center Sault. “Partnering with MyMichigan Health, which too has a strong and respected history, reaffirms our commitment to ensuring that our rural communities have only the best in health care for the next 100 years and beyond.”

Kalchik continued, “An integration this size takes some time and a lot of people. Our gathering together allowed us to pause and recognize all those involved in the tremendous efforts that made our affiliation and accomplishments possible.”

Since partnering, several improvements have been made for the benefit of patients and communities served. These enhancements include: greater access to care including specialty care due to telemedicine; shared best practices in order to improve quality, care delivery and efficiencies; resource sharing and support for policy development; as well as access to leadership programming, staff training, recruitment resources, and student scholarships.

“Our hope in becoming a member of the health system was to continue to improve our quality of care, and offer new services for the communities we serve,” said Kalchik. “We are delighted to be making strides in so many areas and look forward to what is to come. We couldn’t ask for a better partner.”

In the coming months, work on the strategic and master facility plans will continue in order to identify projects to position MyMichigan Medical Center Sault for long-term viability and success. Recruitment efforts in 2023 will focus on practitioners in primary care.
