As part of MyMichigan Health’s ongoing commitment to bringing comprehensive orthopedic care to the region, MyMichigan recently expanded its experienced musculoskeletal team to include fellowship-trained Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon Emily Ren, M.D. Dr. Ren treats both traumatic injuries and general orthopedic conditions and is currently welcoming new patients to her office located in Midland Professional Suites at 555 West Wackerly Street.

As an orthopedic traumatologist, Dr. Ren specializes in managing complex upper and lower extremity trauma. This include periarticular fractures, revision for nonunions and malunions, as well as pelvis and acetabulum fractures. In addition to trauma surgery, she also provides general orthopedic management of degenerative conditions, as well as total hip, knee and shoulder joint replacements.

“I was drawn to the field of orthopedics because fixing a broken bone and seeing the concrete results is amazingly gratifying,” she said. “There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a patient return to their favorite sport after a hip or knee replacement.”

Dr. Ren received her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. From there she went on to complete a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis and a fellowship in orthopedic trauma at Detroit Medical Center - Receiving Hospital. She is board certified in orthopedic surgery.

Dr. Ren’s philosophy of care is built around creating partnerships with her patients to improve their quality of life, alleviate their pain, and return them to their favorite activities. “Many times, I meet my patients on one of the worst days of their life, so I strive to treat them how I would like my family to be treated,” she added. “I believe that the most important part of care is understanding the emotional and physical impact of a patient’s injury. My goal is to guide them towards the most appropriate treatment and help them obtain the best functional outcome.”
