MyMichigan Offering Medical Assistant Program in Partnership With Mid Michigan College
MyMichigan Health is now accepting applications for its Medical Assistant Program, which begins in the fall of 2023. During the 10-month program, students will be employed as a patient services assistant at MyMichigan Health, working eight hours per week, in addition to taking college courses.
The program is accredited through Mid Michigan College, and is partially funded through grants from the MyMichigan Health Foundation, with minimal cost to the student of $700, plus the cost of books. During the program, students will participate in virtual and classroom instruction and lab training.
Medical assistants can perform EKGs, draw and prepare blood samples, take vital signs, schedule appointments, process billing and assist physicians in surgical procedures.
“We are excited to offer this unique program that combines on-the-job training with college courses,” said Colleen Markel, D.N.P., R.N., S.H.R.M.-C.P., system director of education services, workforce development and volunteer services at MyMichigan Health. “Students in the program will gain not only their medical assistant certification, but valuable, real-world work experience that will benefit them as they begin or further their health care career at MyMichigan Health.”
During the last eight weeks of the program, students will be eligible to take the American Association of Medical Assistant Certification Exam, and upon passing, will be registered medical assistants. Registered medical assistants will be offered a full-time position at MyMichigan Health with a two-year commitment.
