Lost Lake Woods Association of Lincoln recently hosted their annual Rally for a Cure golf outing. Paulette Kallstom, Bev Calkins and Helen Zimmerman organized the event to benefit the Breast Health Program at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena. This year’s outing featured a golf scramble, raffles, 50/50 drawings, and an auction with items donated from local businesses.

Kallstrom, a 12-year breast cancer survivor, commented, “I know how overwhelming it is to receive a breast cancer diagnosis. Treatment, scheduling and day-to-day life can be grueling. Doing this tournament is our way of helping those who are still in the thick of it. We are really proud of this event and the good it does for our community.”

Harrisville’s Ann Ashford also hosted a Rally for the Cure at Loggers Trace Golf Course with funds raised going towards the same cause. “Helping those in need of support through this is a fun event is a great cause. We’re thrilled to be able to support the MyMichigan’s Breast Health Fund!”

Including registrations and hole sponsorships, the two events raised a total of $9,181. The donations will support local breast health patients in need with free mammograms, prescription assistance, ultrasounds and biopsy procedures, as well as lodging and gas cards for women who need to travel for treatment.

Ann Diamond, development director for MyMichigan Health Foundation,, accepted the donations, stating, “What amazing generosity! We are grateful to receive support from our community for the breast health fund, especially from our friends at Lost Lake Woods and Loggers Trace. The proceeds from both golf outings will go towards helping women whose lives have been disrupted by breast cancer. These gifts will make a difference, helping them as they work toward recovery.”

Steve Hand, manager of imaging services, MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena, Alpena encourages all women to get their annual mammogram. “Events like this help bring awareness to breast cancer. We still find women who are not coming in for their annual mammogram. We know that for some, alleviating the financial burden removes the barrier to diagnosis. Our goal is to see the best possible outcome for those with breast cancer. And the best way to do that is to detect the disease early through regular checks. We are grateful for the donations and the awareness these events bring.”
