MyMichigan Medical Center Alma held a ribbon cutting with the Gratiot Area Chamber of Commerce on Friday, May 17, to officially open the new main entrance. Beginning, Monday, May 20 at 6 a.m., visitors and guests began using the new entrance.
“Given a majority of patient care is outpatient, we’ve created a warm, inviting new main entrance, which provides our patients and guests easier access to outpatient and surgical services, including closer parking and shorter walks to our services,” said Marita Hattem-Schiffman, F.A.C.H.E., C.P.M.S.M., president, MyMichigan Medical Centers in Alma, Clare and Mt. Pleasant. “We keep our patients in the center of all we do as we continue to be the go-to place for healthcare in Central Michigan.”
Outpatient services and testing, as well as those who will be having surgery or a procedure, will now utilize the new main entrance Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Guests and visitors will use the hospital/visitor entrance to visit inpatients or access the Highlander Boutique, Highland Café or meeting rooms. Any after-hours outpatient service, such as 24/7 Lab and X-ray, can be accessed through the Emergency Department.
In March, the Medical Center opened the new surgical suites which combine the newest, state-of-the-art surgical technology with increased comfort for patients and their families.
“The new surgical suites are a welcome addition for our patients and staff,” added Hattem-Schiffman. “These recent renovations enhance our ability to continue to deliver the most advanced surgical services to our rural communities.”
The four new operating rooms are larger than traditional ones and can now accommodate the latest innovative technology. The ceiling-mounted booms replace the traditional floor-based model, offering even greater positioning with ultra-efficient LED lights. Upgraded video monitors provide a view of the operating table and show surgical images, X-rays and patient vital signs. The rooms are also equipped for remote collaboration, consulting and teaching.
The final phase of construction includes renovating the current operating rooms into private pre-operative and recovery rooms, a fully equipped post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) and a day surgery area continues. Construction is expected to be wrapped up late this year.
