The MyMichigan Medical Center Gladwin Bra-La-La event raised more than $27,000 for the Medical Center’s Breast Health Fund. All proceeds will support breast health needs for underserved women and men in the Gladwin community.

“We are grateful for the communities continued support of this fun event,” said Kelsey Killinger, director, MyMichigan Health Foundation. “One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Supporting women with a breast cancer diagnosis can help alleviate the added stress of worrying about financial constraints.”

For the fundraiser, local businesses, clubs and community members decorated 26 bras that were auctioned off during a live auction fashion show. Receiving the most votes, the “Tee’d Off at Breast Cancer” bra, designed by the Sugar Springs Women’s Golf Association, was named the People’s Choice winner. A special donation by JD Jewelers of Gladwin entitled, “Survivor Jewels,”featured one carat total weight of diamond studs with diamond jackets, a breast cancer ribbon necklace in rose gold, pearl necklaces and earrings, as well as sterling silver necklace and bracelets, was valued at $6,500.

“Everyone who has contributed, volunteered and supported the event will make a real difference in the fight against breast cancer in the Gladwin community,” added Killinger.

The evening also featured guest speaker Becky Dazmyn, a breast cancer survivor and Gladwin resident, who bravely shared her cancer journey. Event supporters included:Pink Diamond Sponsor Huntington Bank, Pink Ribbon Sponsors MidMichigan Community Health Services and Program Sponsors Branham’s Jewelry Store, Sandi Frashefski, Jane Griffin, Happy Go-Getters, Suzanne Mauritz, Ray and Rose Stover, Sugar Springs Gadabouts, Sugar Sprints Women’s Golf Association and Karen Swanson.
