MyMichigan Medical Center Sault has announced the appointment of Mark Savoie to chairman of the Medical Center’s Board of Directors. Savoie, current board co-chair, will begin his term January 1, 2025, replacing Tom Coates, current board chair, who will also continue to serve on the board. Ralph Duman, M.D., radiologist, MyMichigan Medical Center Sault, has been named co-chair of the board also beginning in 2025.

Savoie, president and CEO, Central Savings Bank, has served on the Medical Center board since 2019 and looks forward to leading the Medical Center Sault board of professionals and community leaders. “We have an outstanding group of leaders that is proud to serve our community hospital,” he said. “As a board, we have a responsibility to offer excellent care to our community by adding new services, providers, along with improving infrastructure. While it can take some time, these changes are happening with more expected along the way. This is an exciting time to be part of the Medical Center and we look forward to what the future holds.”

Raised in Manistique, Savoie received a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and economics from Lake Superior State University. He has been a member of the Elks for more than 20 years and serves on the board of MyMichigan Medical Center Midland, Early Childhood Investment Corporation, and Michigan Bankers Association. Savoie lives in Sault Ste. Marie with his wife and has three daughters.

Coates, director of development for Great Lakes Boat Building School in Cedarville and member of the St. Joseph’s Parish Finance Council in Sault Ste. Marie, has been a member of the MyMichigan Medical Center Sault board since 2019. He has been a resident of the Sault for more than 40 years where both he and his wife celebrated the birth of both children at the Medical Center and now their granddaughter receives her care there.

“As a long-time resident, I have had the pleasure to not only see the growth but also experience the incredible level of care MyMichigan Medical Center Sault offers our community and the Eastern Upper Peninsula,” said Coates. “What I find so impressive is the number of home-grown employees we have at our Medical Center. A number of our team members went to Sault High School and have gone on to join us here as providers, nurses and serve in other positions. That tells you something. It tells you we have something very special here.”

Cedarville resident Radiologist Ralph Duman, M.D., who has worked for the Medical Center in the Sault for more than 22 years, enjoys serving on the Medical Center’s Board of Directors and looks forward to his new role as board co-chair.

“Being on the board was important to me because it offers me the chance to help give a physician’s perspective and provide guidance and input to the functioning of the Medical Center,” said Dr. Duman, who has been married for 39 years and has four grown children and five grandchildren. “Now, as part of MyMichigan Health, I am looking forward to seeing the continued growth in the hospital as we continue to further integrate with the system. With an increase in services and number of new providers we expect to see, we can continue to provide excellent, local care to our community, so our patients don’t have to travel as far from home for the care they deserve.”

In addition to Savoie, Coates and Dr. Duman, also on the MyMichigan Medical Center Sault Board of Directors are: Jamie Adair, M.D., former chief of staff, MyMichigan Medical Center Sault; Sarah Amo, M.D., current chief of staff, MyMichigan Medical Center Sault; Maxine Marie Anderson, real estate agent, Smith and Company Real Estate; Bryan Cross, COO, MyMichigan Health; Amy Goetz, owner, Lockview Restaurant and at Mid-American Title; Kevin Kalchik, president, MyMichigan Medical Center Sault and officer, MyMichigan Medical Center Sault Board of Directors; Garth MacMaster, real estate agent, RE/MAX NorthStar Realty; Charles Palmer, attorney, Charles Palmer PC, and Amy Scott-Kronemeyer, superintendent, Sault Ste.
