Medical Center Receives Project Support from Clare County Community Foundation

Fence screening has been installed around the construction site at MyMichigan Medical Center Clare as the crew continue digging footings and foundation work for the $40 million multi-phase expansion and revitalization of the Medical Center. 

The MyMichigan Health Foundation received a $10,000 grant from the John A. and Audrey Brown Memorial Endowment Fund at the Clare County Community Foundation to support the expansion and revitalization project at MyMichigan Medical Center Clare.

“We are pleased to support a project that will have such a positive impact on the lives of so many people in the immediate and long-term,” said Ed Hubel, director, Clare County Community Foundation. “The Foundation exists to cultivate the power of giving within our community, support long-term transformation and help ensure all residents thrive. Through MyMichigan Health, residents of Clare County and surrounding areas have access to quality care. We value their vision by supporting this project and keeping care close to home for our community.”

Keeping the Medical Center in its current location became very clear to the MyMichigan team during the expansion and revitalization planning process. In order to do so, MyMichigan is working with Hord Coplan Macht as the designer and architect on the project, as well as Granger Construction who were brought in early to ensure the initial $40 million budget would have a maximum impact on patient care.

“We are grateful to receive the support of the Clare County Community Foundation, as well as their passion for providing nothing less than the best for our patients,” said Marita Hattem-Schiffman, president of MyMichigan Medical Centers in Clare, Alma and Mt. Pleasant. “It’s exciting to see the progress the Granger team has made since our groundbreaking this summer. We understand there are some minor inconveniences for those visiting the campus, but the end result of a state-of-the-art Medical Center that can continue to provide high-quality, technologically-advanced, convenient health care in downtown Clare will be worth it.” 

Crews are currently working on Phase One of construction, which includes a new, two-story section. This area will house a new Emergency Department, new Inpatient Unit with all private rooms and an expanded Imaging Department, including a fixed MRI Unit. Access to the Medical Center for 24/7 outpatient services including lab, X-ray and CT imaging will also be improved.

Phase Two of the project will include construction of a new main entrance and canopy, as well as a plaza connecting the campus to the downtown area. Project improvements include enhanced patient entry and wayfinding, as well as complete renovation of first floor public spaces to include Patient Registration, first floor dining, the Shamrock Patch Gift Shop and access to lab and imaging services. Phase Two will immediately follow Phase One and is anticipated to take eight months.  

A fundraising campaign led by the MyMichigan Health Foundation is underway with significant support directed toward the building project.
