For the second year in a row, MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena has received a platinum designation from the Michigan Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health.

MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena has received a 2023 platinum designation from the Michigan Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (MI AIM) for the second year in a row. This designation places the Medical Center in a select group of Michigan hospitals and reflects the dedication to improving maternal safety with high quality and skilled physicians and caregivers.

The Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) is a national data-driven maternal safety and quality improvement initiative based on proven implementation approaches to improving maternal safety and outcomes in the U.S. The purpose of the designation awards from MI AIM is to highlight an organization’s level of participation with the program to improve quality and safety in labor and delivery units.

The criteria for designation in 2023 included implementing safety protocols in the following areas: reduction of primary C-section, obstetric hemorrhage, severe hypertension and maternal sepsis. Data for 2023 is presented monthly, and the designation was awarded in May 2024. MyMichigan representatives attended the Mother Infant Health Summit in June and were presented with a banner to display on their unit.

“Receiving a Platinum designation from MI AIM speaks to the level of commitment from our team to provide excellent, safe maternal care to all women in our community,” said Gynecologist Brendan Conboy, M.D. “The hard work of our OB nurses and doctors with patients and newborns, as well as support from the ambulatory staff in the office, all contribute to this achievement.”

Heidi Romanowski, B.S.N., R.N., R.N.C.-O.B., manager, Maternal Child Unit, takes pride in her team and offering families a safe, positive experience. “We take great care to ensure moms, babies and their family members are comfortable and supported during this exciting time in their lives.”

MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena has six labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum suites. The all-private, home-like suites are equipped to offer a safe, calm and peaceful environment for the birthing family. Comfortable amenities include adjustable lighting, music or nature sounds, temperature control, and access to a private bathroom with large walk-in showers. The private room allows rooming in so that babies and parents can stay together.
