Biography
Shengfu Wang, M.D., Ph.D., is an Interventional Radiologist with MidMichigan Health, specializing in interventional radiology and pain management procedures. He is certified in Vascular and Interventional Radiology from the American Board of Radiology and sees patients at MidMichigan Medical Center – Midland. Interventional Radiology (IR) refers to a range of techniques which rely on the use radiological image guidance i.e. X-ray fluoroscopy, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) to precisely target therapy. IR treatments are minimally invasive procedures.
Dr. Wang most recently served as the Program Director of the Interventional Radiology Residency program and as an assistant professor of radiology at the University of Iowa. He is happy to be returning to Michigan where he attended graduate school at Michigan State University and medical school and residency at Wayne State University. He also completed his fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at the University of Michigan. His extensive background and interest in research help keep him abreast of the newest treatment options available for patients.
“Many patients experience relief from symptoms almost immediately following treatment,” said Dr. Wang. “I had a patient who was barely able to walk due to hip cancer pain. After image guided cryoablation and cementoplasty of the acetabulum metastasis, the patient was able to go ice fishing immediately.
Philosophy of Care
“My goal is to work as a team with the patient, physician and other care givers,” said Dr. Wang. “I want to provide everyone with updated information and clearly explain to the patient their condition and treatment options involving image guided procedures. Many patients have multiple diagnoses that require a great deal of communication with everyone involved in their care and often require foresight into what care options might be needed in the future. I need to understand all aspects of a patient’s needs, before a procedure, so we may retain care options down the road. My goal is to collaborate with all the physicians involved in caring for the patient.”
Special Interests and Procedures
Dr. Wang provides comprehensive interventional radiology care and has a special interest in interventional oncology including biopsies, pain management, chemoembolization, radioembolization and thermal ablation. He performs a wide range of arterial, and venous procedures, various tumor ablations and treatment of vertebral compression fractures.
He enjoys running and spending time with his two sons and daughter.
