Profile

Biography

Curtis Young, M.D., M.S., specializes in treating conditions that affect the nerves, tendons and bones of the hand. His expertise and training brings specialized care for hands to the region.

“I enjoy the intricacy of hand surgery and enjoy helping my patients return to function,” Dr. Young said. “Hand surgery interests me because it is the best surgical combination of soft tissue, bones, nerves and vessels. In many ways, it combines all my surgical experience into one surgical modality.”

Philosophy of Care

“I believe in creating a partnership with my patients, but ultimately, my patients make the decision about their care,” Dr. Young said. “I base my practice on solid studies and evidence-based medicine. I provide my patients with the most up-to-date information possible, so they can make the best decision about their care, and I can create the best treatment plan for them.”

Dr. Young says treatment choices will depend on the unique functional demands of each patient. “For example, treatment of severe arthritis in the thumb of an 80-year-old who enjoys the outdoors, playing golf or fishing, will be much different from someone who prefers to spend time indoors on less active pursuits,” he explained. “Some people choose a very conservative route while others want to do as much as possible to regain full function. In my practice, I feel it is vital that my patients are fully informed so they can make the best decisions, and I can offer the best care.”

Special Interests and Procedures

Dr. Young’s special interests and procedures include bone and soft tissue tumors, carpal tunnel release, cubital tunnel release, De Quervain’s release, distal radius fractures, Dupuytren’s contracture, hand fractures, scaphoid fractures, small joint arthroplasty, tendon repair, tendonitis, thumb basal joint arthritis and trigger finger release.
