Biography
Brittany Matuzak, F.N.P.-C., M.S.N., specializes in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She sees patients at MyMichigan Medical Center – Alpena.
Matuzak received her master’s degree in nursing from Purdue University Global. She has experience in a variety of nursing environments including in-patient rehabilitation, medical surgical and cardiac units. She is very passionate about her specialty and working in Women’s Health. “I have been a labor and delivery nurse for eight years, and I find so much joy caring for pregnant women,” she said. “There have been some incredible advances in genetic screening, in vitro fertilization (IVF) and birth control that are all utilized to support women in our communities with their overall health.” Matuzak is currently working towards becoming an international board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) to provide further lactation support to breast-feeding mothers in the area.
Philosophy of Care
A large part of Matuzak’s philosophy of care involves good communication. “It is important for me to establish an open, trusting relationship with my patients,” she said. “Mutual respect is a must. If patients find me easy to talk with and relate to, they are going to feel confident that together we can make a plan for their care that will be successful.”
Matuzak is particularly interested in antepartum care, helping patients prepare for labor and delivery. She also understands the need for lactation support for mothers who wish to breast-feed. In both areas, she believes education plays a key role. “The more women know about the physical and emotional aspects involved with becoming a mother – before, during and after the birthing process – the more comfortable they will be. I want to be that resource and provide them with a wonderful experience throughout pregnancy and postpartum.”
When not working, Matuzak enjoys spending time with husband, Matt, and their children Kate and Jack. They like being outdoors and going camping.
