Biography
Jaclyn Martinez, P.A.-C., is a physician assistant who specializes in the treatment and management of both chronic and acute pain and sees patients at MyMichigan's Spine and Pain Program at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena.
Jaclyn was attracted to the field of pain medicine because she’s able to have a big impact on patients’ quality of life. “In the past, I’ve worked with patients pursuing knee and hip replacements via weight loss to improve their pain, and it was very rewarding when patients met their goals and were able to start walking or biking again or even just being able to play with their kids or grandkids,” she said.
“I try to look at the whole person and investigate how to help them,” Jaclyn added. “I try to figure out the barriers the patient is having and what’s preventing them from reaching their goals.”
Philosophy of Care
“My philosophy of care is team-based, with the most important member of the team being the patient, “Jaclyn said. “I’m responsible for presenting patients with the best evidence-based care options; educating them, counseling them and helping them decide what’s best for their care.
“To Jaclyn, it’s most satisfying when patients tell her that they appreciate that she truly listens to them and has empathy for them. “I also love seeing patients get positive results from their treatment plans, and being able to get back to doing the things they need and want to do,” she said.
“I want to create an open and honest relationship with my patients,” Jaclyn said. “I never want a patient to feel that they cannot tell me something for fear of being judged. I want them to know that I need to know their full history in order to provide the best and safest care for them.”
Special Interests and Procedures
Jaclyn has a special interest in the management of obesity, as it’s a risk factor for chronic pain.
In her free time, Jaclyn enjoys swimming and being at the beach or the lake with her family, reading, cooking, and dancing, especially having dance parties at home with her kids. She and her husband, Rob, have two sons. She is a native of Alpena and is looking forward to being back in her hometown.
