Biography
Aubree Akers, M.S.N., F.N.P.-B.C., is a family nurse practitioner who sees patients of all ages at MyMichigan Family Medicine in Ithaca.
As a registered nurse for 15 years, Aubree has seen and taken care of patients of all ages and in all stages of life. “Family medicine means taking care of the family – whatever that family unit looks like for the patient,” she said.
Aubree is excited to care for patients in the family medicine setting. “I have been a labor and delivery nurse for 11 years, with four years of general medical nursing prior to that,” she said. “I am a mom and wife, and have personal experience with taking care of loved ones. Those personal experiences often transfer to my professional career and my ability to support patients.”
Philosophy of Care
“I believe the patient is a whole person, not just a defined illness or disease,” Aubree said. “Every aspect of life affects our overall health and wellness. Patients need to be treated physically, mentally and emotionally.”
Aubree’s goal is to create a long-lasting relationship with her patients, one where they return for years for their health and wellness needs. “I want to create a relationship built on trust, mutual respect, and one where my patients know I can empathize with them and feel compassionate about their need to feel heard and be seen.”
“I love working with patients to set health care goals together,” she said. “It’s a satisfying aspect of my work to watch and cheer as patients strive to be the healthiest they can be, as well as helping patients to understand how their body functions in both a well state and a state of disease.”
Aubree, her husband, Jason, and their three daughters, Macie, Bryn and Teagan, live on a 60-acre farm in rural Gratiot County. They enjoy spending time together traveling, camping and boating at various lakes in Michigan, as well as showing their three horses and anything else that involves the outdoors.
“I feel lucky to be given the opportunity to serve patients in a place that I personally know to be a great community,” she said. “I was raised in Ithaca and am excited to be working in a community near and dear to my heart that means so much to me.”
