Alexandria Smits, D.O. specializes in family medicine. She sees patients of all ages at MyMichigan Health Park Gladwin.
Philosophy of Care
“I love being able to take care of everyone no matter what age they are and getting to know and take care of the whole family from grandkids to great grandparents,” said Dr. Smits. “I also love that it is always something different every day.” “I like to treat patients as a whole and get to really know them and have them feel comfortable with me and their care. I treat my patients more like friends or family. I think if I’m getting to know them, they should also get to know me, so I will regularly talk about my family, kids, etc.” “I really try hard to always listen to my patients and come up with a mutual decision on how to get the best care for their concerns. I also make sure that we work up things that need to be done, not just brush them to the side. I am open to new and different ideas if it helps me prevent disease and keep my patients healthy.” “I did extra training in pediatrics to feel really comfortable with my younger patients. I like to play and jump with them when they visit so it’s a fun experience coming to the doctor. “I can be fun, exciting, silly or serious, but I will always want to get to the bottom of your problems. My office is a no judgment zone, and I want patients to feel comfortable telling me anything.” In her free time, Dr. Smits likes to hang out with her kids, Jaxon and Lincoln, and husband, Justin, as well as to read, work out, golf, go for walks with her neighbor or play board games.
