Biography
Kara Mondeau is a physician assistant who specializes in family medicine. She sees patients of all ages and has a special interest in preventive medicine.
“Ever since I can remember, I wanted to work in medicine because I wanted a career where I could help people every day,” Kara said. “I chose to specialize in family medicine because I enjoy working with children as well as adults and I also like treating a variety of conditions.”
Philosophy of Care
Kara believes her role is to help people achieve their best quality of life and wants patients to see her as a partner in their good health. “I want patients to be engaged in their care and be actively working toward living a better, healthier lifestyle,” she said.
“I also want patients to know that we are in this together. I will work with them to help them come up with a healthier diet, refer them to classes that may help them manage their health, or refer them to other experts who can help them achieve their goals.”
Kara involves patients in their care and works to educate them regarding their conditions and treatments. “When I order testing, I show the patients the results and explain what they mean,” she said. “The more patients understand, the more motivated they will be to improve their health and their lives.”
While she wants patients to be active participants in their health, Kara knows many will face challenges. “Resources may be a problem, whether it’s lack of money or classes, or problems with transportation. “I try to help my patients feel comfortable enough to discuss their issues so we can work through them.
There is almost always a solution to their challenges,” she said. “Some of the most healthful solutions are free. Exercising is very inexpensive.
Simply walking every day and making minor adjustments to one’s diet can make a huge difference. It all comes down to knowing my patients and helping them find solutions that work for them.”
Kara enjoys celebrating success with patients when they reach goals they have set together. “When I see a patient who is feeling better because they have worked hard and made huge improvements, it’s nice to know that I did something to help,” she said.
Kara, who was raised in Clare, is honored to be serving neighbors and friends. “It’s important to me to see people in the town where I grew up living good, healthy lives,” she said. “If they are willing to partner with me, we can make it happen.”
Kara and her husband, Matt, live in Clare. They enjoy spending time outdoors with their daughter, Kinsley, and golden retriever, Hank.
