Biography
Teona Maghlakelidze, M.D., specializes in internal medicine. After receiving her medical degree from AIETI Medical School in the country of Georgia, Dr. Teona, as she is known to patients and associates, completed an internal medicine residency at Synergy Medical Education Alliance in Saginaw. She has additional training in nephrology and rheumatology.
Dr. Teona is a Michigan State University College of Human Medicine clerkship director for the Midland Regional Campus and teaches medical students. She has been practicing medicine since 2007.
Philosophy of Care
The satisfaction that comes from helping others is what influenced Dr. Teona to become a physician, she said. “I hold each of my patients close to my heart; every patient is important. It’s the best reward knowing I may have made a difference in their lives.”
Dr. Teona says open, trusting communication is something she believes is important when treating patients. “I will take the time to answer questions and give patients the best knowledge that I have,” she said. “My goal is to help them stay happy and healthy with the necessary treatments.”
Dr. Teona was born and raised in the country of Georgia. She fluently speaks English, Georgian and Russian. She lives in the area with her twin boys. In her spare time, Dr. Teona enjoys spending time with her children, playing the piano and tennis.
Special Interests and Procedures
Dr. Teona has special interest in knee, hip, heel and shoulder injections, as well as small skin procedures. She also has a focus on diabetes, obesity and preventive medicine.
Dr. Teona was designated by Blue Care Network as a Blue Ribbon Doctor for outstanding patient satisfaction by their members in June 2013. Her practice was also designated as a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan in 2013. Consumer Reports has described a PCMH as a “practice that’s all about you,” since PCMH practices place higher emphasis on customer service and seamless coordination of care.
