Biography
Christopher J. Gunnell, M.D., is a board-certified in family medicine physician. He sees patients of all ages at MyMichigan Family Medicine office in Clare, Michigan.
Philosophy of Care
“My goal is to take care of my patients as best I can,” said Dr. Gunnell. “I want my patients to feel they are listened to, and I enjoy the time I spend sharing in their lives. I particularly enjoy the stories they bring, both medical and non-medical, and the funny stuff that happens in the daily course of life, as this can help to lessen the impact of trials and disappointments we all occasionally face.”
“I’m interested in whatever information will help my patient, no matter what field it comes from. An ounce of prevention is still worth a pound of cure for diseases like diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and to some degree Alzheimer’s disease and depression. Managing diseases with diet and exercise and attitude can still take us a long way toward improving health. New technologies are helping us to combine these time-tested ideas with better information. In addition, many procedures have improved, adding good quality of life to our years.”
“I think we are currently engaged in a moral, political and economic struggle not unlike the magnitude our country faced during the civil war. Are we each going to take care of just ourselves or just ‘our people’ or are we going to work together to help take care of everyone? Family medicine is on the frontline of this dilemma, as we often see patients struggle with the cost of medications and medical tests. I’m hopeful we will find a way to do the right thing.”
“In my free time, I enjoy swimming, getting out into the middle of nowhere and composing music on occasion. I have been married 20 years and have a 16 year old daughter and an 18 year old son.”
