About

MyMichigan Health's Breast Heath Clinic offers a higher level of expertise in breast health, including advanced screenings and preventive measures. The Breast Health Clinic is designed for those patients who are at significantly increased risk level of cancer. They offer further clarificaiton of risk and options to increase surveillance or reduce the level of risk.

Clinic patients will go through a thorough family history and discuss any lifestyle factors that may increase their individual risk of developing breast cancer along with other cancers. Additionally, MyMichigan’s dedicated specialists will:

  • Review the patient’s breast risk assessment taken at the time of their mammogram
  • Provide education on the patient’s lifetime risk of developing breast cancer and discuss potential implications for family members
  • In some cases perform a clinical breast exam and order
  • additional screening tests as needed (i.e., 3D mammograms, ultrasound, MRI, etc.)
  • Manage screening coordination, gather results and conduct follow-up
  • Develop personalized surveillance plans
  • Discuss risk reduction strategies, including lifestyle changes, diet, exercise, smoking cessation and chemo prevention
  • Make additional referrals as needed to other specialties as appropriate

Nurse Navigator

At MyMichigan Health, patients diagnosed with breast cancer may be guided through the process of their treatment by a Nurse Navigator. Patients with cancer have a lot of questions and the nurse navigator is there to answer them.

Our nurse navigator translates medical information and helps patients and their families understand the plan of care and what to expect from treatments and medications.

The Nurse Navigator can provide you with:

  • Information about the types and stages of breast cancer, and national treatment recommendations
  • Referrals to highly skilled specialists and oncologists
  • Information on surgery, chemotherapy, radiation oncology, and alternative treatments
  • Hope and support
