Individuals managing a chronic, open wound benefit from the expertise of a certified wound care specialist. In situations where a wound will not heal on its own or isn’t responding to standard care, these specialists will develop an innovative treatment plan while also educating the patient or a family member on methods of managing the wound while it heals.
There are a variety of chronic wounds that may require attention, including:
- Diabetic Ulcers
- Ostomy Care
- Pressure ulcers (like bed sores, for example)
- Surgical incisions that aren’t healing
- Wounds resulting from burn or other injury
Non-healing wounds may be associated with poor circulation, poorly functioning veins and immobility. If unresolved, quality of life is significantly hindered and could even lead to amputation in some instances. Consult with your physician if a wound is not healing at the expected pace to find out if a wound care specialist can help.
