Bariatric Surgery

We believe that weight loss isn’t a “one size fits all” proposition, but rather best achieved when it is customized and gives the patient choices whenever possible.

Within our campus, patients can find providers who focus on lifestyle changes, others who utilize medicinal remedies, and still others who practice surgical interventions. Oftentimes, there are two or more specialists in these disciplines collaborating with the patient. The result is a spectrum of options for patients who wish to lose weight.

Lifestyle Changes

To learn about better dietary habits, our Medical Nutrition Therapy department is available to lend patients a hand with when it comes to making healthy eating choices. Dietitians work alongside physicians and other advanced practitioners who are assisting patients with weight loss.

Weight Loss Medications

A variety of medications are also on the market to help individuals lose weight through a closely-monitored program with their doctor.

Using a medication is no guarantee for weight loss. Patients must still adhere to a nutrition plan and exercise. While using the medications, patients also continue to the see the physician for monthly check-ups. Even once the weight begins to come off, patients must work hard to keep it off.

Bariatric Surgery Evaluation

For some patients, surgical weight loss may be the most effective means of losing weight. Although it is not right for everyone, it is a proven option for candidates whose obesity does not respond to conventional weight loss methods alone. Our bariatric surgeons have used a variety of surgical interventions, including gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, and gastric bypass. In consultation with your bariatric surgeon, you will discuss these options in depth, reviewing the advantages and disadvantages of each.

From lifestyle changes, to prescription medications, to bariatric surgery – MyMichigan Medical Center Sault providers are knowledgeable and skilled in the latest options for weight loss.
