Stroke Support Group - Houghton Lake

After experiencing a stroke, rehabilitation is key to recovery. While every patient’s rehabilitation may look different, it can often include speech, occupational and physical therapy to help the patient re-learn certain skills. Another recovery aspect that can make a big difference is connecting with fellow stroke survivors.

MyMichigan Health’s Rehabilitation Services Department is now offering an in-person monthly support group at its office in Houghton Lake. Support group participants will set goals to accomplish daily and weekly tasks, be able to network and socialize with other stroke survivors, get community support and tools for effective coping and stress management. Overall, the group promotes independence, health, well-being and confidence.

Support group discussion topics may include: medication management, prevention of another stroke, managing post-stroke pain, self-care for caregivers, post-stroke depression, incontinence, personality changes after a stroke and managing spasticity post-stroke.
