Breast Cancer Exercise Videos
MyMichigan Health has created a series of exercise videos designed for breast cancer patients who are living with or beyond cancer.
There is strong evidence that exercise reduces the risk and recurrence of many types of cancers.

The exercise videos will help maintain muscle mass, strength, balance and mobility while having fun. Exercise minimizes the risk of falls and injuries, improves sleep and reduces the risk of anxiety and depression, while improves overall emotional well-being. The videos will improve breast cancer patient’s quality of life even as the medical team is seeking to improve the quantity of one’s life.
The series of videos include aerobic exercise, resistance training and yoga-based postures to enhance range of motion mindfully. Three fitness levels of students and instructor showcase multiple effort levels. The different levels can be used to increase one’s workload when ready. Each video is 20 to 30 minutes in length.

Strength Training
Focuses on strength training of all major muscle groups (shoulders, biceps, triceps, chest, upper back, core, hips, knees, ankles) with light weights. Light stretching will complete the workout. Exercise sets are eight to 12 repetitions with a rest period between each set. Three fitness levels will be featured. It is recommended to incorporate resistive training two to three times a week.
Balance & Flexibility
This video guides participants through a mindful breath focus movement routine to enhance range of motion while calming the mind and body. Moves will be done both from a chair and standing with three fitness levels demonstrated by the participants.
Cardiovascular Training
Works toward the goal of continuous, rhythmic movements involving large muscle groups. This 20-minute aerobic session includes a warm-up and cool down with some fun cardio kick boxing and easy dance steps in a low-impact workout. Cardiovascular workouts are recommended three times a week.
The videos were developed by a licensed physical therapist and exercise physiologist certified in cancer rehabilitation. They are led by a fitness instructor with over five decades of group fitness leadership skills. All participants in the video are breast cancer survivors.
