Breast Cancer Exercise Videos

MyMichigan Health has created a series of exercise videos designed for breast cancer patients who are living with or beyond cancer.

There is strong evidence that exercise reduces the risk and recurrence of many types of cancers.

Additional benefits of exercising include:

  • Reducing fatigue
  • Boosts oxygen in your body
  • Reduces pain
  • Decreases inflammation

The exercise videos will help maintain muscle mass, strength, balance and mobility while having fun. Exercise minimizes the risk of falls and injuries, improves sleep and reduces the risk of anxiety and depression, while improves overall emotional well-being. The videos will improve breast cancer patient’s quality of life even as the medical team is seeking to improve the quantity of one’s life.

The series of videos include aerobic exercise, resistance training and yoga-based postures to enhance range of motion mindfully. Three fitness levels of students and instructor showcase multiple effort levels. The different levels can be used to increase one’s workload when ready. Each video is 20 to 30 minutes in length.

Get started in the right direction today and move forward into a healthier tomorrow with these at home exercise videos.

Exercise sets are eight to 12 repetitions with a rest period between each set. Three fitness levels will be featured. It is recommended to incorporate resistive training two to three times a week.

Balance & Flexibility

This video guides participants through a mindful breath focus movement routine to enhance range of motion while calming the mind and body. Moves will be done both from a chair and standing with three fitness levels demonstrated by the participants.

Cardiovascular Training

Works toward the goal of continuous, rhythmic movements involving large muscle groups. This 20-minute aerobic session includes a warm-up and cool down with some fun cardio kick boxing and easy dance steps in a low-impact workout. Cardiovascular workouts are recommended three times a week.

The videos were developed by a licensed physical therapist and exercise physiologist certified in cancer rehabilitation. They are led by a fitness instructor with over five decades of group fitness leadership skills. All participants in the video are breast cancer survivors. Before starting an exercise routine, please consult your healthcare provider to determine what exercises are suitable.
