Sclerotherapy Treatment
What is Sclerotherapy Treatment?
Sclerotherapy is a type of treatment used to treat twisted and enlarged veins known as varicose veins, as well as spider veins. This treatment generally works best on small varicose (reticular) veins. During the procedure, Asclera®, a prescription medication, is injected into an affected vein. This medication causes the vein to seal shut, eventually reabsorb into the body, and fade from view over time.
The number of required treatments and outcomes of sclerotherapy vary from person to person, but typical treatment for spider and reticular (small varicose) veins is one to three injections. Sessions are usually spaced one to two weeks apart. After sclerotherapy, treated veins tend to fade within a few weeks, although they might not disappear completely. It can take a month or more for full results. Be sure to tell your health care provider about all the medicines you are taking, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins and herbal products. Together, you can determine if Asclera treatment is right for you.

What is Asclera?

What should you expect during the treatment?
- Each session typically lasts 15 to 45 minutes
- Antiseptic will be used to clean the treatment area
- A very fine needle will be used to inject Asclera into the treated veins
- A slight stinging may accompany each injection
Please note that because every patient is different, each treatment and its results will vary. Factors include varicose vein severity, disease progression, skin tone, and extent of recommended treatments.
Reasons you shouldn’t have Asclera treatment?
- You have a known allergy to polidocanol
- You have an acute vein or blood clotting (thromboembolic) disease
- You have very large (ropey) veins or known venous insufficiency

How much does the treatment cost?
Since sclerotherapy is considered a cosmetic procedure, it is not billed through insurance. The out-of-pocket cost is $300/session and will be collected at the time you check-in. Our office accepts cash or check only at this time. The number of sessions needed will be determined during your initial session.
