Giraffe Omnibed Carestations® are designed to minimize temperature, sound and light disturbances, even during transport or care. Your baby can receive treatments such as phototherapy or CPAP from the comfort of their Omnibed. We also have an isolation room and a procedure room for babies who require those facilities.
Giraffe Omnibed Carestation is a registered trademark of General Electric Company.
Our team is led by board-certified pediatricians, called neonatologists, who specialize in caring for newborns. They partner with our specially trained nurses and other clinical experts to provide round-the-clock care. Parents are valued members of the care team and will be engaged in the baby’s care so that they feel comfortable and confident about taking they baby home.
When your baby is admitted to the special care nursery, we will develop a customized plan of care with goals and milestones for your baby’s success. We will provide regular communication and education about your baby’s condition and treatments, their progress and what to expect both in the nursery and after you bring your baby home.
Positive touch, interaction and bonding are essential for your baby’s wellbeing. You will receive detailed instruction on safely interacting with your child including holding or touching your baby, feeding your baby and assisting with tasks such as bathing and changing your child. Our goal is to ensure that you are comfortable and confident bringing your baby home. If you wish for other family members to touch or hold the baby, please discuss this request with your baby’s nurse.
Please respect our tiny patients by keeping voices low and avoiding startling motions, lights or sounds. For privacy reasons, you may not take photos, video, or audio of our employees or other patients, families and visitors without written consent from those individuals. Please take care that others are not seen or heard in the background when you are photographing or recording your child.
Due to the nature of our patients’ conditions, we will customize a plan for each family regarding who can be with your baby, how many people can be with your baby at one time and the best times to visit. All visitors, including birth parents, must be healthy when they come to see your baby. Please discuss visiting plans with your baby’s nurse prior to the arrival of any guests.
Please place items such as bags, purses, coats, boots, jewelry or other loose accessories in the locker assigned to your family before entering the nursery. Anyone who is visiting or interacting with your child will need to follow handwashing policies. We will show you where and how to properly clean your hands. Remember to sanitize your hands again before touching the baby if you cough, sneeze, blow your nose, touch a phone or electronic device, eat or use the bathroom. To prevent contamination, no food or drinks are allowed in the nursery.
The Maternity Center is a locked unit for your baby’s safety. Parents and visitors will need to press an intercom button and identify themselves for entry. We provide babies and parents with matching armbands for identification. All of our providers and staff wear ID badges and will introduce themselves and explain their role in caring for your baby.
