Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring
This test records your blood pressure at varying times for a 24-hour period. You will wear a blood pressure cuff and two chest electrodes (small, adhesive patches) that are connected to a recorder which is worn around your waist. Your blood pressure will be randomly taken, two times an hour during the day, and every two hours when you are asleep. You may engage in normal activities, with the exception of bathing, during this 24-hour period. After the 24-hour period has passed, you will return and the recorder will be removed.
Time:
30 to 45 minutes in the Cardiovascular Department
Preparation:
- Wear loose clothing, if you wish, to conceal the recorder
- Avoid the use of creams and lotions on the chest area
- There are no diet restrictions
- Please bring a list of medications with you
