Electromyography (EMG)
This safe test records the electrical activity in muscles. This test is used to evaluate function of nerves and muscles. For this test, you will be lying down and a tiny, single-use sterile needle will be temporarily inserted into the muscle(s) tested. Some range of discomfort may be experienced during this testing. This test is performed and interpreted by a neurologist.
Time:
Approximately 30 minutes
Preparation:
- You must bathe on the day of your test.
- Bathe without using lotions or oils.
- Continue normal diet and medications.
- Bring a list of your medications you are taking.
Your Results:
All neurodiagnostic test results will be interpreted by a neurologist, and results will be sent to your physician. Your physician is responsible for communicating your results to you and helping you understand what they mean. If you have any questions about your test results, please call your doctor.
