Event Recorder
This is a test for occasional heart rhythm changes. This test records the electrical activity of the heart. The recorder is activated by the patient and the heart rhythm is transmitted via phone to the Cardiology Department.
Your doctor will ask that you wear the event recorder for two weeks. You will be instructed on how to attach the electrodes (small, adhesive patches), how and when to activate the recorder and how to transmit EKG recordings. You may engage in normal activities, and will be able to remove the recorder to bathe. After two weeks have passed, you will return the recorder.
Time:
20 to 30 minutes in the Cardiovascular Department
Preparation:
- Wear loose clothing, if you wish, to conceal the recorder
- Avoid the use of creams and lotions on the chest area
- There are no diet restrictions
- Please bring a list of medications with you
If you have questions about preparing for this test, call your doctor or MyMichigan's Cardiovascular Department at (989) 839-3570.
