Treadmill Exercise Exam (Stress Test)
This test checks the function of the heart during and after physical activity. Electrodes (small, adhesive patches) will be attached to your chest. With a physician present, you will be monitored for blood pressure and heart rate and rhythm (EKG), while walking on a treadmill. The treadmill starts slowly and, at regular intervals, the speed and elevation of the treadmill are increased to make your heart work harder. The way your heart responds can tell the physician how well blood flows to your heart.
