Profile

Biography

Dianbo Zhang, M.D., is an interventional radiologist with MyMichigan Health, who specializes in both diagnostic and interventional radiology. Dr. Zhang is fellowship trained in interventional radiology, angiography and cardiovascular imaging.

As an interventional radiologist, he uses radiological image guidance techniques such as X-ray fluoroscopy, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) to perform both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Interventional radiology procedures are minimally invasive and include embolization, angioplasty, stent placement, thrombus management, drainage, and ablation, among others. “The field of interventional radiology allows me to navigate through the body under imaging guidance to diagnose and treat conditions,” he said.

Philosophy of Care

“I seek to create trusting relationships with my patients so that they know that I have their best interest at heart,” said Dr. Zhang. “I value compassionate, patient-centered care and bring best practices from a variety of leading institutions. I strive to provide safe, effective treatments and collaborate closely with primary care, as well as medical and surgical specialists to ensure my patients receive personalized, evidence-based care.”

Special Interests and Procedures

He specializes in imaging-guided liver tumor-directed procedures, such as ablation, transarterial chemoembolization and radioembolization. Additional areas of specialization include venous interventions, such as recanalization, thrombolysis, thrombectomy, stenting, and sclerotherapy.

When asked about the most exciting medical discovery or development in the field of interventional radiology, Dr. Zhang mentioned transcatheter embolization. “Catheter embolization places medications or synthetic materials called embolic agents through a catheter into a blood vessel to block blood flow to an area of the body,” he said. “It may be used to control or prevent abnormal bleeding, close off vessels supplying blood to a tumor, eliminate abnormal connections between arteries and veins, or to treat aneurysms.”

In his free-time, Dr. Zhang enjoys spending time outdoors. Other areas of interest include traveling, history, cuisine and film.
