Egle Klugiene, M.D., is a family medicine physician seeing patients of all ages in the Campus Ridge Building.
In addition to family medicine, Dr. Klugiene is a certified lifestyle medicine physician. Lifestyle medicine uses evidence-based lifestyle therapeutic approaches to prevent, treat and reverse lifestyle-related chronic conditions. The approach includes encouraging a predominantly whole food, plant-based diet, regular physical activity, adequate sleep, stress management and avoidance of risky substance use.
“Lifestyle medicine has become my true passion,” Dr. Klugiene said. “There is strong evidence and research that implementing a healthy lifestyle approach can decrease a patient’s risk for certain conditions and diseases. I am excited to partner with my patients and teach them how to make healthier choices when it comes to their diet, activity, stress management, sleep and much more. Together, we will create a lifestyle medicine approach that best fits each patient.”
Philosophy of Care
“Family Medicine gives me an opportunity to become an important part of my patients’ lives and develop authentic and very close relationships with them,” said Dr. Klugiene. “I treat every patient like I would treat my own family. The greatest reward is when people tell me they like me because I care and listen.”
“As a family physician, I am comfortable addressing the needs of the whole person for patients of all ages. Building long term relationships enhances my ability to diagnose, treat and follow them as they progress through life.”
Family medicine is a very broad field in which it is essential to have a wide range of clinical knowledge. Serving as an assistant professor and a faculty member in the MSU/MyMichigan Medical Center Alma Family Medicine Residency helped Dr. Klugiene to keep her knowledge up to date.
“I have a unique opportunity to work with the residents, sharing with them my knowledge and experience while watching them develop into thoughtful physicians. Some of them are now successful physicians within MyMichigan Health. It’s satisfying when a few years after graduation they tell me, ‘Thank you for teaching me… I have learned a lot from you.’”
Dr. Klugiene maintains work/life balance by spending time with her husband, Arturas Klugas, M.D., who is the Program Director for the MSU/MyMichigan Medical Center Alma Family Medicine Residency, and her two sons, who are the center of her life. In addition to English, she speaks Lithuanian and Russian.
