Biography
Heidi Monaghan, D.P.M., is a podiatrist who sees patients at her office in Midland, as well as the Wound Treatment Centers in Gladwin, Midland and West Branch. As a podiatrist, Dr. Monaghan enjoys working with the complex anatomy of the lower extremity as well as limb salvage work. “Being able to alleviate pain and improve a patient’s mobility and quality of life is the most satisfying aspect of my work,” she said. “I have helped heal complex, chronic wounds that have been present for many months or years and salvage what others have deemed a lost cause.”
Philosophy of Care
“My approach to care is heavily based around patient education,” said Dr. Monaghan. “My job as a physician is to educate and help patients navigate the medical decision-making process. My approach centers around open and honest communication.” Dr. Monaghan believes that patients should make educated and informed medical decisions. “A physician’s role is to guide, not dictate care,” she said. “Doctor/patient relationships should start from a place of education, trust and compassion with a side of humor thrown in for good measure.” “It’s not enough for me to simply tell patients what to do,” Dr. Monaghan added. “They need to understand the ‘why’ behind my recommendations. Persistence, resilience, honesty and humor set me apart.”
