Biography

Ashley Dailey is a certified adult nurse practitioner with MyMichigan Medical Group and is a member of the comprehensive heart and vascular team at MyMichigan Health. This team includes cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, as well as vascular, thoracic and cardiovascular surgeons. Ashley specializes in cardiology and she works exclusively on an outpatient basis with people who have heart disease. “Our goal is to prevent future problems,” Ashley said. “Using behavior modification and drug therapy, I help patients manage their conditions for the long-term. Medications are getting better all the time and early prescription intervention, along with lifestyle changes, can dramatically reduce the risk for serious heart trouble in many patients.”

Ashley grew up in an environment that shaped her career choice. Her parents operated an assisted living facility. “For years I watched my parents care for people as I learned to care for people,” she said. “Nursing was a natural transition for me. I can’t imagine working in another field. I love nursing and I love cardiology.”

Philosophy of Care

Ashley believes in empowering her patients through education. “I’m always learning and I share as much knowledge as I can,” she said. “I take every opportunity to teach patients what they can do to help themselves.” She gives her patients tools – notes and handouts, calendars and flow sheets – to help them track and record the information she needs. “I also learn about their lifestyles, activities and their natural behaviors. That information helps me develop a treatment plan that will fit into their life. While there is a lot we can do with medicine, lifestyle changes can have a tremendous impact on health. Even a little change is better than nothing at all.”

Ashley said the best part of her job is getting to know her patients. “I love to hear about what’s going on in their lives – trips they’ve taken, their grandchildren. Those personal relationships are great,” she said. “And there’s nothing better than seeing patients getting better and feeling good.”

With her calming presence and accepting nature, Ashley quickly puts people at ease. While she seeks to enlighten, she never lectures. “I want what’s best for my patients,” she said. “I’ll work with them to develop a plan that helps them get where they need to be, and where they want to be. Working together, we’ll find a plan that works for them.” Ashley and her husband, Tim, a podiatrist, are an active couple with a love for adventure; they particularly enjoy travelling and experiencing different cultures. They also enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including running, hiking and cycling.
