Biography
Jonathan Horbal, D.O., specializes in Allergy & Immunology and sees patients in Midland and Bay City. Dr. Horbal helps children and adults with asthma and allergy issues. He treats children from infants through the high school years and into adulthood. Many times, people can acquire food, airborne, or seasonal allergies over time.
Philosophy of Care
“I didn’t start out to pursue medicine initially. I found chemistry interesting until I got into the lab environment. That’s when I thought, ‘Why not medicine?’ I was interested in everything in the medical field and developed strong skills in intensive care management. However, while the science and patient interaction were amazing, I was looking for more of a long-term patient connection.”
“After completing my training in internal medicine, I realized how much I missed the pediatric patients, or the ‘little guys.’ I wanted to integrate pediatrics back into my life and practice, as they make you laugh and smile. A specialty in allergy and immunology was the ideal field, allowing me to develop long term patient relationships and work with both adults and pediatric patients. I get to help fix people’s problems, treat environmental issues and improve someone’s quality of life.”
“Allergy, immunology and asthma are on the cutting edge with research in biological drugs that enable us to treat people with severe asthmatic conditions. These medicines target individual pathways of the immune system, getting the treatment exactly where it needs to go.”
Dr. Horbal grew up in the Tri-Cities, graduating from H.H. Dow High School in 1998. After completing his undergraduate studies in Chemistry and History at Hope College in Holland, Mich., he completed a Master of Science in Biomedical Science at Wayne State University in Detroit. He graduated with honors from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency through the Henry Ford Hospital System.
During his fellowship training in Allergy and Immunology in Cleveland, he became interested in clinical immunology and immunodeficiencies along with atopic/allergic diseases. Dr. Horbal is excited to bring the most cutting-edge detection and treatment of immunodeficiencies, allergic disease, and asthma to the Mid-Michigan area.
In his free time, Dr. Horbal enjoys watching Formula 1 auto racing and participating with his family in their racing team, Bucksnort Racing.
