Biography

Ishani Ali, M.D. specializes in geriatric medicine and memory care, with a focus on evaluating and treating patients with a decline in cognition. She sees patients at the Memory Care program in the Orchard Building, on the campus of MyMichigan Medical Center Midland.

Philosophy of Care

“During my Internal Medicine residency, I took care of many elderly patients,” said Dr. Ali. “I also worked at nursing homes where some of my patients were frail and elderly. These experiences helped me to realize that this population has unique and acute issues that need to be addressed. I was inspired to pursue a geriatrics fellowship, which I completed at Tulane University in New Orleans, and I have been practicing geriatrics since then.”

“I have 17 years of experience of taking care of patients in a Memory clinic and just as many years of experience as a medical director at multiple nursing homes. I am most interested in the field of dementia, evaluating and treating patients with a decline in cognition.”

“I’m pleased to be part of a new Memory Care Program at MyMichigan Health that is designed to provide the information, care and support that patients and their families need to navigate the difficult challenges of declining cognition.”

“I provide the best and most compassionate care to my patients. I feel they do appreciate my patience with them and that I listen to them. I try to address almost all their concerns at every visit.”

“I also recognize that the spouse and family need advice and guidance as to how to take care of their loved one with a declining cognition, so I take time to address their questions and concerns as well.”

“This is an emerging field with many exciting developments. For example, recently a medication came out showing promise to decrease the Amyloid burden in the brain, which is thought to be one mechanism causing a decline in cognition. More research on this breakthrough is currently being done.”

“I look forward to providing our community with this much needed program and the resources it can offer.”

In her free time, Dr. Ali enjoys spending time with her husband, two wonderful children and playing tennis and piano.
