Biography

Kelly Bond, M.S.N., F.N.P.-B.C., is a nurse practitioner who specializes in palliative medicine. She sees patients in Beaverton, Coleman, Clare, Farwell, Gladwin, Harrison, Lake, Sanford and Rosebush.

To Kelly, palliative medicine is, at its core, about the whole patient. This includes the quality of patients’ lives, their family, disease or illness, and emotional, spiritual, intellectual and physical health. “I hope to help patients through symptom management, thinking through personal goals of care, and assisting with difficult decision-making in the midst of serious, life-threatening and life-ending illness, and that’s an honor and a privilege,” she said.

Kelly is a patient advocate at the center of her being. She spent more than 10 years as a paralegal in personal injury and worker’s compensation law. As a bedside nurse for 13 years at MyMichigan Medical Center Midland’s Progressive Care Unit, Kelly has spent countless hours with patients and families. She is very familiar with what patients and families experience during serious illnesses, which is of great benefit in her palliative care practice.

For the past five years, Kelly has served on MyMichigan’s Ethics Committee and as the Co-Chair of the Ethics Mentor Committee. Her experience in Ethics and advanced education in ethics is helpful in assisting with difficult decisions, considering multiple positions, solving challenging issues and facilitating communication. She has also completed Advanced Training in Health Care Ethics at the University of Washington.

Philosophy of Care

“It’s my desire to have relationships with my patients and families based on trust, truth and openness,” Kelly said. “I want to provide whole person care to my patients in a way that lightens or lessens their burdens and suffering. I want my patients to maintain dignity, personal choice, and to experience a greater sense of control over their bodies and lives during some of the hardest experiences they are facing.”

Kelly has learned a lot about what patients and families go through when faced with a serious illness, disease or accident throughout her career. “I listen to patients and families,” she said. “I see them as whole people with lives, families, dreams and hopes.”

Special Interests and Procedures

Kelly has a special interest in disease trajectory, goals of care, quality of life and restoration of dignity to patients.

She’s an avid reader, lifelong pursuer of knowledge, admirer of natural beauty and loves opportunities to serve others.
