Biography
Constantinos Constantinou, M.D., is a vascular surgeon with MidMichigan Health and is a member of the comprehensive heart and vascular team. This team includes cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, structural heart specialists, as well as vascular, thoracic and cardiovascular surgeons.
Dr. Constantinou served as an assistant professor of vascular surgery at Marshall University in the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine located in Huntington, West Virginia.
“I went into the field of medicine because it allowed me to combine my passion for science and my love of interacting with people,” he said. “A physician meets on a daily basis with people of different needs from all walks of life and every ethnic background. He is able to apply rational scientific knowledge to address their condition and help them in a tangible way.”
According to Dr. Constantinou, vascular surgery is a field in which longitudinal, long-term and often times, life-long relationships are established between the physician, the patient and the patient’s family. “As one of my mentors put it, ‘in vascular surgery we do not discharge patients,’ and that has always stuck with me,” he said. “It is a dynamic and constantly evolving field that requires continuous education on the part of the physician to stay current with new developments.”
Philosophy of Care
Dr. Constantinou feels it is very important to establish a good rapport with the patient and their family. “I always listen to patient’s concerns,” he said. “Patients need to know and feel that they can always call the office and that the message will be relayed to the physician in a timely manner. Good provider communications also results in better patient outcomes and patient satisfaction. As a surgeon, I directly communicate and always keep the primary care and referring provider informed of any new developments in the patient’s status. As a vascular surgeon I make sure that the providers and the dialysis centers receive a copy of the patient’s evaluation, as well as the operative procedure.”

Dr. Constantinou provides comprehensive vascular surgical care and performs both open and endovascular procedures. His primary interests are carotid disease, thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysm, limb ischemia, venous disease with a special interest in non-healing venous ulcers, as well as hemodialysis access placement and maintenance.
