Biography

Gregory Daut, M.D., is an orthopedic trauma surgeon with MyMichigan Medical Group and treats a full range of orthopedic conditions, using contemporary techniques for complex reconstruction.

Before coming to MyMichigan Health, Dr. Daut served on the orthopedic medical staff of Bayhealth Medical Center in Dover, Delaware. As an orthopedic trauma surgeon, he specializes in complex injuries to the musculoskeletal system, such as fractured bones and dislocated joints, as well as soft tissue injuries. Trauma can range from low energy fractures, as seen in elderly patients, to multiple injuries and compound fractures such as those caused by a traffic accident or fall.

Dr. Daut has always enjoyed the challenge of rebuilding the whole from complex fracture fragments. Even more gratifying, he’s found the ability to watch patients progress from loss of function on what may be the worst day of their life back to regaining the use of their limbs.

Philosophy of Care

Dr. Daut’s goal is to attain the highest level of function with minimum risk. If nonsurgical options are likely to bring equivalent results, he will recommend them over surgery.

“I seek to create a partnership with patients by explaining different options and offering suggestions, but ultimately allowing the patient to direct their care,” he said. “The most satisfying aspect of my job is the interpersonal connections that I have with my patients, their family members, and other medical professionals.”

Special Interests and Procedures

Dr. Daut’s clinical focus is on treatment of complex fractures around joints, as well as pelvis, acetabular and long-bone fractures.

“I provide an expertise in fracture care for injuries that other providers may not wish to handle,” he said. “Although my focus is on high-energy traumatic injuries, I happily take care of most other aspects of general orthopedic care including arthritis and tendon/ligament injuries.”

According to Dr. Daut, although not new, the principles of the AO have guided treatment of fractures for decades, with emphasis on stability, allowing early motion and return to function.

In his free-time, he enjoys running, reading, watching football and spending time with his wife Alexys and their two daughters, Elizabeth and Kaitlyn, and their son Calvin.
