Biography
Daniel Diaz, D.O., is a family medicine physician with specialized fellowship training in non-surgical sports medicine. Dr. Diaz provides both non-surgical musculoskeletal care and sports injury evaluation and treatment through MyMichigan Health’s WellSport Program. He is also an authorized Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) by the Federal Aviation Administration to provide Class II and Class III flight physicals.
“Being an athlete myself, I enjoy working with other like-minded patients in helping them accomplish what they’ve set out to do,” he said. “Whether it’s helping a parent play outside with their children without pain, or an athlete run a 100-mile race across the desert, I find it very rewarding to positively impact my patients’ lives. I also enjoy being able to help athletes of all ages and experience levels achieve their goals, start or maintain an active lifestyle, or improve their overall wellbeing through weight loss, healthier diet and movement.”
Philosophy of Care
According to Dr. Diaz, motion is lotion for the body. “I consider exercise to be medicine and I’m passionate about encouraging and helping my patients maintain an active, healthy and happy lifestyle,” he said. “My goal is to work as a team with my patients to help them take charge of their health. I strive to create relationships with easy access and great communication whether through their online MyChart patient portal or by phone. The most satisfying aspect of my work is watching patients realize they can do something they didn’t think they could and seeing them take charge of their health.”
Special Interests and Procedures
Dr. Diaz provides comprehensive sports medicine treatment including diagnostic and interventional ultrasound-guided procedures in the office. “While I’m capable of performing sports medicine procedures, I feel it’s important not to rush to procedures and surgeries but first to find the underlying cause of the problem and address that through conservative measures,” he added. His areas of special interest include endurance sports, running and cycling, overuse injuries, team physician and sports coverage, as well as mass participation event coverage.
Dr. Diaz serves as a flight surgeon in the National Guard. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife Sarah and their son Ace. He also enjoys trail running, mountain biking, grilling, paddle boarding, snowboarding, and participating in ultra marathons.
