Biography
Christopher Haltigin, M.D., specializes in obstetrics and gynecology. He sees patients at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena.
Dr. Haltigin hails from Oakville, Ontario, Canada and lived the Canadian dream of playing professional hockey before pursuing a career in medicine. Therefore, it’s not surprising he was attracted to a specialty with a lot of action.
“Obstetrics and gynecology combine elements of surgery, medicine, and emergency medicine in a fast-paced, ever changing, and emotional environment,” he said. “To me it is the specialty most similar to being in a hockey game.”
Philosophy of Care
Dr. Haltigin strives to create a patient-centered, friendly, honest and informative environment in his practice.
“I know what it feels like being on both the physician side and patient side of the conversation. I bring my past experiences from both sides into each unique patient encounter to create positive working relationships and environments for patients and their families.”
“I know I’ve really made a difference when a patient thanks me for helping them through a challenging gynecologic situation or challenging pregnancy.”
“Recent advancements in surgery are enabling us to do more procedures using minimally invasive techniques, which often allows faster recovery and less pain, and also to optimize cases that still require open surgery.
We’ve also come a long way in our understanding of complicated pregnancies so that we can provide safer, better outcomes.”
In his free time, Dr. Haltigin continues to enjoy hockey as well as golf, travel and working out.
