Biography
Pediatrician Adam Hamilton, M.D., of MyMichigan Medical Group in Midland considered becoming a teacher, but decided that becoming a physician combined his love of the sciences and the opportunity to teach while working with patients.
He enjoys his patients because they are ready to learn and inquisitive. “I like teaching families and children about their health,” he said. Children make good patients, Dr. Hamilton explained, because they are healthy and resilient and usually respond fast to treatment. “In a matter of days they are back to being themselves and on the playground.”
Dr. Hamilton said that he listens for the subtle cues from his patients that allow them to communicate what’s going on with their health. He likes all children but finds preschoolers interesting little people. “Preschoolers are at an age of discovery. They can talk, are beginning to function on their own and are learning to be independent.”
Philosophy of Care
He said that his philosophy of caring for children of all ages is to first build rapport. His favorite methods are through magic tricks or humor. “I try to create a really relaxed, comfortable environment for children. Going to the doctor can be a fearful process. By connecting with his patients, he works with them on their level. “I want them to know that I care about them and their health.”
Dr. Hamilton encourages parents to “trust their instincts, their intuition. If parents have a concern that something isn’t right with their child, I urge them to act on that concern. I value their input.”
Dr. Hamilton and his wife, Obstetrician/Gynecologist Kelly Hamilton, M.D., have first-hand knowledge of what it means to be a parent with their daughter. Dr. Hamilton enjoys all aspects of athletics from participating to coaching to watching basketball and football on TV. “I promote exercise in children—running, jumping and playing are good ways to stay active and healthy.”
Both Doctors Hamilton grew up in the Midland area and graduated from area high schools, Dr. Kelly Hamilton from Bullock Creek and Dr. Adam Hamilton from Midland High. They are happy to be living here again.
