Biography
Daniel Harber, D.O., is an invasive cardiologist with MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena and a member of the MyMichigan Health’s comprehensive heart and vascular team. This team includes cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, heart failure and structural heart specialists, as well as vascular and cardiovascular surgeons.
According to Dr. Harber, he became interested in the field of cardiology when his father died from a viral cardiomyopathy when he was a freshman in high school. “I like the fact that I can make a significant difference in the lives of my patients and take individuals who are severely ill and return them to a normal life and life span,” he said. “I also like that cardiology allows me to do surgical procedures as well as medical treatment.”
Dr. Harber has been practicing medicine for more than 32 years. Prior to coming to MyMichigan Health, he practiced cardiology at Beaumont Health.
Philosophy of Care
“I would say that my philosophy of care is that of a minimalist,” he said. “I attempt to treat patients with as little medication as possible and make procedures my last resort. I care for my patients like I would for my own wife, mother or father.”
Dr. Harber likes to have a doctor-patient relationship much like a family physician. “I want to know about my patient’s families, their upcoming vacations and work, and likewise, I tell them about my family, my trips, and things that I enjoy doing,” he added. “The most satisfying aspect of my job is making personal connections with my patients and helping normalize their lives as they fight cardiac disease.”
Special Interests and Procedures
As an invasive cardiologist, Dr. Harber works with patients who have a variety of cardiac-related conditions such as coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis, peripheral vascular disease, valvular and structural heart disease, congenital heart defects and other complex cardiac conditions.
