Biography
Abid Khan, M.D., is an internist with MyMichigan Medical Center Clare. Dr. Khan’s outpatient practice encompasses care for adult internal medicine patients, including those with chronic diseases, and includes multidisciplinary systems for taking care of patients with complex medical problems.
Dr. Khan does not provide inpatient care, but works closely with the medical team at MyMichigan Medical Center Clare for all inpatient care needs. “While inpatient care is a crucial aspect of the provision of care, it must go hand in hand with outpatient care, where fatal conditions are prevented and chronic illnesses are carefully followed over time,” said Dr. Khan.
“People tend to think sophisticated equipment is the key to comprehensive medical care,” said Dr. Khan. “While technology is needed to support medical decisions, the essence of the matter is clinical expertise within multidisciplinary networks of our existing health system. Those networks and academic links to the world of research and education are the key to comprehensive medical care.”
Philosophy of Care
“There is nothing more valuable than a human life. What a noble deed, this work of medicine,” Dr. Khan said. “I am blessed to be part of the health care team.”
Dr. Khan is committed to patient education. “Knowledge is empowering, even more so in health care where knowledge is a right of every patient,” said Dr. Khan. “I feel it is of paramount importance to provide effective education to my patients.”
He has learned that people are more responsible for their own medical management when they understand their health and any illnesses that they have. “I realize that, as a physician, I am an advocate of health and an ambassador of medicine, but I am also a service provider,” Dr. Khan said. “It is the patient who chooses to follow the prescribed care, so they must be equipped with knowledge in order to make responsible choices.”
While patient education is vital, Dr. Khan also believes that other issues such as the cost of health care, lifestyles and emotions are important considerations in the care of his patients. “I provide holistic care by caring for the physical and mental well-being of my patients through sincere concern about their day-to-day lives,” he explained. “Their concerns are my concerns.”
Raised in Britain, Dr. Khan practiced in Australia before moving to Michigan with his wife who grew up in the state. They enjoy the lifestyle of rural Michigan and have made their home in the Clare area.
