Biography
James Lewis, D.O., is an orthopedic surgeon with MyMichigan Health who specializes in both general pediatric and adult orthopedics.
As an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Lewis is dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of injuries, disorders and diseases of the musculoskeletal system. This system includes bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, nerves and tendons.
“Orthopedic surgery is a very hands-on specialty that gives me the unique opportunity to provide patient care on multiple levels,” he said. “Growing up around my family’s collision repair and hot rod business gave me the opportunity to not only learn how to enjoy working with my hands and fixing things, but also building and fostering strong relationships with customers.”
Philosophy of Care
When it comes to patient care, Dr. Lewis believes in the importance of establishing relationships based on open communication. “One of my goals is to offer a welcoming environment for my patients and their family members,” he said. “The most satisfying aspects of my job are making sure that my patients have a comprehensive understanding of their medical needs and utilizing my years of training to provide them with great results.”
Special Interests and Procedures
Special interests for Dr. Lewis include total joint replacements and general orthopedics. Dr. Lewis treats a wide range of conditions, including arthritis; dislocations, fractures, sprains and strains; muscle, ligament and tendon damage; as well as osteoporosis.
In his free time, Dr. Lewis enjoys spending time with his fiancé, Brittany, and their one-year old black lab Paisley. Prior to medical school, he spent a lot of his extra time working on cars in his family’s hot rod shop. “When I get the time, I still enjoy getting my hands dirty,” he added.
