Biography
Shannon Martin, D.O., M.P.H., is a family medicine physician seeing patients of all ages at the East End Building in downtown Midland.
Philosophy of Care
“My main focus is truly listening to my patients, exploring all options and coming to a treatment plan, which is in line with a patient’s wishes and ideals, but also is in line with current evidence-based practices” said Dr. Martin. “My studies in public health have led me to be more prevention focused. Healthy diet, exercise and preventive screenings can lessen the impact of disease.”
“My goal is to provide a well-rounded approach and address the physical, as well as social aspects, which correspond with a patient’s condition. I want patients to feel that I am approachable and provide a comfortable environment for them to address any of their health care needs.”
As a Doctor of Osteopathy, Dr. Martin is also trained in osteopathic manipulative therapy (OMT) and likes to provide that as a part of an all-inclusive treatment plan. “It’s a hands-on approach to healing that involves gently moving or stretching the body’s muscles and tissues to move joints back into place.” It can be a less invasive way to improve mobility and relieve pain and other symptoms
Although Dr. Martin doesn’t do deliveries, she loves seeing babies and children. “Being a mother myself gives me a different view on the aspects of raising a child. There’s the medical literature and then there is common sense and practical knowledge, and I like to combine both to give my patients the most useful advice.”
Dr. Martin’s hobbies include traveling within Michigan, running, and spending time with her husband, Mike and their young daughter, Avery. She grew up on a farm in Smiths Creek, Michigan and has family in Southeast Michigan and the Mid-Michigan area. Since moving to Midland, she has enjoyed spending time in the beautiful downtown area, especially the Farmer’s Market.
