Biography
Anna McKenney, M.D., specializes in obstetrics and gynecology. She sees patients at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena.
Philosophy of Care
“I love the breadth of experiences in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology and being able to care for women of all ages and all stages of life,” she said. “I enjoy variety in my day, from seeing patients in clinic to delivering babies to spending time in the operating room. I fell in love with the specialty on my first day of OB/GYN rotation as a medical student and can’t picture myself doing anything else.”
Dr. McKenney views her patients as partners in decision making about their own care.
“I prefer to go through available treatment options with drawbacks and benefits of each to ensure my patients are well-informed and able to make the right decision for their care. What feels right to one woman may not be the right option for another.”
“I aim to create a trusting relationship with my patients where they feel listened to and supported. I don’t like to rush through visits. We deal with some very sensitive subjects in our field and I always aim to create an environment where my patients feel they can be open with me.”
Dr. McKenney’s patients find her to be a kind and caring provider who enjoys making a difference in their lives.
“The most satisfying part of my work and the part that keeps me going is the ability to connect with patients and help them through difficult times. While helping women through emotional times such as pregnancy loss or infertility is also the most difficult aspect of my job, it is where I feel I can make a difference in their lives by being there to support them.”
“I am also passionate about helping women with complaints that can have a huge impact on their day-to-day life, from managing heavy or painful periods to overactive bladder and incontinence to menopausal symptoms. I have a particular interest in helping couples with infertility.”
“I think the sheer number of options for contraception is an amazing advancement in our field, truly allowing women to take control of their reproductive health and find the one option that best suits their needs.”
Dr. McKenney grew up in a small town in rural Northern Michigan and is excited to return to this part of the state.
“I recently moved to Alpena with my husband, Shawn, and we love spending time outdoors. We have a beautiful, sassy one-year-old daughter and a house full of fur babies: two dogs and two cats. My favorite place to relax and spend time with family is at the beach. I also enjoy hiking, drawing, and painting.”
“I truly love my job and feel so blessed to be joining this community. I look forward to meeting you and serving you!”
